Winter weather can be harsh and drying on our natural hair. Thankfully beauty blogger India of My Natural Sistas has plenty of tips to help you keep your hair moisturized during the winter months.
These tips are easy fixes because you actually don’t need much to keep your hair healthy and moisturized.  Hope these tips help get you through the cold winter months. Please feel free to share your tips in the comment section!

PRE TREAT

Before you shampoo, India recommends you pre-poo  your natural hair. Coconut oil, olive oil and avocado oil are all great oils to use because they penetrate the hair shaft and leave your hair really soft.

 CLEANSE

India recommends you use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner during the winter.  Stay away from shampoos with sulfates because they will that will not strip your natural hair of moisture.  “I use Aussie Moist Shampoo and Conditioner along with plenty of oils and butters to keep my natural hair moisturized and protected.” says India.

TREAT

Try a Hot Oil Treatment this winter to give your hair maximum moisture.  Do it before you shampoo twice a month this winter to get maximum results.

MASK

When your hair is feeling dry and lifeless it may be time to step up your deep condition game. Deep condition your natural hair weekly or bi weekly for soft healthy hair this winter.

HYDRATE

Aloe vera juice is a staple in India’s natural hair regimen.  Mix aloe vera juice and water in a spray bottle and spray on your wet freshly washed hair to balance the pH of your hair.

SEAL

After you’ve washed your natural hair it’s very important you seal in the moisture using oils and butters.   Apply your favorite oils and/or butters to your hair before styling.

DAILY

Your wash day is a very important step in keeping your natural hair moisturized but what you do daily is equally important. Moisturize your hair daily or every other day using water followed by a moisturizing leave in conditioner and then seal your natural hair with an oil or butter.

NIGHTLY

Waking up with dry hair is not the business. India recommends you create a night time routine that will protect your hair at night so you don’t lose moisture by the morning.  Your night time natural hair routine can include your remoisturizing routine shared above along with sleeping with a satin bonnet, scarf or satin pillow case.  Don’t have the time to retwist? For longer hair put your hair up in a pineapple or pull it down into a low pony tail for tighter textures.

PROTECTION

The ends of your hair are extremely delicate and are prone to dryness and breakage.  During the winter wearing styles that conceal your ends such as buns, undoes, wigs, or crochet are a great way to keep your hair moisturized.

The winter is an attractive season to wear your natural hair straight because the moisture is much lower in the air, however India suggest you voice heat completely if your is dry.
