These are the hair colours we're dreaming of trying when lockdown lifts Switching it up.
A hair colour switch-up is the easiest way to freshen up
your look - but with salons across the country shut due to lockdown
restrictions, we're having to put our hair colour dreams on hold, for
now at least. Luckily, lockdown has given us plenty of time to gather
inspiration and lust over the latest hair colour trends in preparation
for our next colour appointment.
We've seen 70's blonde and cinnamon brown trending so far this year, but the real hair colour inspo comes from GLAMOUR cover star Chrissy Teigen,
who showcased the most lust-worthy, luscious purple lengths on her
Instagram earlier this week. While Chrissy reveals her hair
transformation is actually thanks to a wig, we're tempted to take inspiration but make the look permanent.
For those who can't wait until salons reopen, you *could* give it a go yourself at home with an at-home hair dye kit.
Luckily, the science behind at-home formulas has come a long way in
recent years, meaning it's possible to achieve glossy, vibrant colour
for a fraction of the cost of an in-salon appointment - although for
dramatic transformations, we would always advise seeking professional
services.
So, if you do decide to take the plunge, don't forget to
protect your coloured strands with a nourishing and strengthening
treatment like Olaplex, and swap to sulphate free shampoos to maintain the brightest colour result.
If you're not quite ready to take the full colour plunge, mix things up with a new style, give these braids a go, or amp up your hair accessories. According to the latest Pinterest data, searches for clips are up by 930%, while scrunchies are up a staggering 6309%.
Icy Tones hair
Icy tones with purple and blue hints, Elsa's Frozen hair is the wintery look beauty fans are loving on Instagram.
The Mallen Streak hair
Taking inspiration from those with natural mallen streaks
(a section of hair with little to no pigment), this highlighting trend
sees a bigger section of hair bleached for a dramatic stripe, usually
placed to frame the face.
Texture Paint hair
As
more and more women are embracing their natural textures, free-hand
highlights are making a big comeback. Rather than using the traditional
foil technique, lightening agents are painted through curls to further
enhance the coiled shapes and shadows, adding instant dimension.
Amber Slate hair
A
mixture of warm (think strawberry blonde) and cool (think ice blonde)
tones creates 'Amber Slate' – a modern take on the classic honey blonde.
Opal hair
Pearlescent shades with super-reflective shine are always a good idea. If you're not up for the rainbow version, this harmony of grey and cool-toned blonde is just as beautiful.
Metallic peach hair
This
peachy, metallic hair colour puts the 'Living' into 'Living Coral'.
Created by Cambridge Hair Collective, the highlights woven between
brights takes us back to the rose gold hair trend.
Blonde roast hair
If you're a brunette hoping to add a splash of blonde
to your colour or a blonde hoping to tone down for the colder months,
blonde roast is the ideal way to do it. The new colour trend seamlessly
combines shades of darker brown with shades of lighter blonde for the
ideal Autumn hue. Describing the trendy new hair colour on Instagram,
colourist Olivia Smalley wrote: "A hybrid combo of cool metallic ash
tones on brunette hair." Will you be trying it this season?
Chilli chocolate hair
Gingers and reds
are the colours of the moment, but chilli chocolate hair is for those
of us that are a bit nervous about going the full way. The colour is
made up of a deep chocolate brown
with an auburn hue, to get the illusion of sun-kissed hair without it
looking unnatural. The name came from Amanda Leaman of Joi Salon in
Boston, for a pretty self-explanatory reason - it looks like one of
those extremely expensive hand-crafted chocolate bars that only get
pulled out on special occasions.
Mauve champagne hair
Looking for a way to switch-up your blonde hair? Meet mauve champagne as coined by Arizona-based hairstylist, Tara Nicole, via Allure. Thanks to the mauve-toned formula, this hue changes based on where the light hits. Genius.
Berry hair
Berry hair is all over our Instagram feeds with the multi-dimensional tones meaning it works for all skin tones.
Toasted coconut hair
If you're a brunette who wants to dip her toe into more of a blonde hue, let us introduce you to toasted coconut: the hot new hair colour taking over our Instagram feeds. Speaking to Allure,
colourist Ami Rexroth explained: "It's a very rich, dark root that
softly transitions and melts into blonder ends". We are absolutely
loving this subtle new take on blonde highlights, aren't you?
Shadow hair
More people than ever are avoiding flat colours like the plague, opting for midlights, balayage, ombrè and more to get depth of colour.
Coffee balayage hair
There's a new balayage
in town and we're loving the concept! Coffee balayage mimics the usual
technique but using coffee colours from the dark espresso to the soft
latte shades, combining to make this glossy bob a tonal dream.
Gem Roots
Gem roots is the current trend fulfilling our crystal-obsessed
dreams. From magenta to pastel shades of green and pink and silvery
blonde ends, it sounds like it shouldn't work but oh, it does.
Fruit Juice Hair
Another trend that will have brunettes jumping for joy, the latest colour style dubbed 'fruit juice hair' is total hair goals. Coined by hair guru Alisha McAlister,
she explained: "I’m not sure what to call this! It’s a mix of blended
fruit colours. I started this hair colour thinking I was doing a simple
base and tone. Then my amazing client surprised me! She said, “I want
something different!” So yay for stylist choice night!". We think it'll
be a big hit this summer.
Rose Brown hair
Finally! A pastel trend that brunettes can get involved with! The rose gold trend isn't done just yet, as rose brown is gaining traction
on Instagram. Instead of having to dye your hair bright blonde to
achieve the look, this works with darker hair colours. Created by
hairstylist Thi Thao Tu, it's done by using a combination of bleach, Olaplex treatment, and brown and red dyes. We're into it.
Ghosted hair
This
gorgeous look has nothing to do with the dating term, but rather what's
hiding in the shadows of the gorgeous hue. Why's it different from
platinum or silver? It's the addition of carbon, quartz and oyster white
that you don't see at first glance. First crafted by Jason Hogan of Josh Wood Atelier on this wavy short hairstyle, it's definitely going to be a biggie this year.
Strawberry Blonde hair
Emma is always redhead goals. This season she's upping the blonde hair colours and making copper take a backseat, but never abandoning her trademark ginger 'do.
Rich chestnut hair
Lily Aldridge is tempting us with her rich roots and chestnut ends. A very subtle balayage that will allow your lengths to grow out worry-free between appointments.
Golden copper hair
Julianne Hough
shows blondes how to transform into a redhead with this golden copper
colour. It's bold, but the lighter undertones give her a 'born with it'
rather than 'from the bottle' look. Check out our favourite red hair colours of the season...
Dark Auburn hair
Adding reddish tones to brunette hair will immediately help to warm up your complexion. That, or jump on the fake tan train.
Golden blonde hair
If you're not ready to go full platinum, golden blonde is the way to go. Wear it with messy curls like Rita to really amp up the vibes.
Cocoa hair
After shaving off her long blonde locks and experimenting with platinum to white-blonde tones, Cara also rocks cocoa-coloured pixie cut.
Golden bronze hair
Heidi's super-shiny bronze shade is slightly darker than her usual all-over highlights. If your bleached hair is in need of a break, this could be the shade for you.
Honey blonde hair
The reigning queen of blondes (in conjunction with Blake Lively, of course), no one does sun-kissed and sensual like Rosie. Take a cue from the model and go for a slightly dirtier, deep blonde.
Bronde hair
The perfect in-between, bronde is the shade if you want to lighten your look but keep it totally natural, like the beautiful Lily-Rose Depp.
Auburn hair
Ever the siren, Amy Adams
demonstrates that ginger biscuit is the colour en-vogue. Perfect for
those with paler complexions who want to bring warmth to their
appearance.
Caramel hair
The bronzed goddess herself shows us that caramel is the colour you need alongside a refreshing, textured cut.
Dirty blonde hair
Queen B's lightened locks from way back are still hair goals. Keep it sleek and straight to really show off your new 'do.
Warm brunette hair
We are almost too distracted by those stunning (I repeat, stunning!) accessories to fully appreciate Emma's hair colour. Upping the warm undertones and reddish hues brings new life to her brunette locks.
Almost-black hair
We get the feeling Selena
isn't about seasonal hair - she is about what works for her. And with
skin that pale and dewy, she's made the right decision by opting for a
strong, almost-black tone and an effortless ponytail to enhance her natural beauty.
Chocolate
We love tonal beauty here at GLAMOUR, and Kerry Washington is goddess goals with her chocolate hair and glowing skin.
