Rihanna showed up and showed out at the Grammys last night! Not only did she take home the gold for the best rap collaboration with
Kendrick Lamar, but she owned the stage when she performed Wild Thoughts. We don't know what was sexier: her hot dance moves or her voluminous curls. Either way, Riri stole our hearts for being one of the few women to rock big curly hair and we're so here for it. We asked her hairstylist, Yusef Williams, to spill the tea on how to achieve the soft fluffy curls and here's what he had to say to get Riri's divalicious look.
The Grammys is one of the most iconic award shows and by far the biggest night in music. Most would think a lot of preparation goes into planning the perfect look, but the celebrity hairstylist surprisingly shares that the prep time wasn't too extreme. "My team and I have been planning this whole thing for about a week. We styled Rihanna and all the background dancers so a lot of thought and work went into this."
Rihanna's Grammy look had us mesmerized and he explained the inspiration behind her fun and whimsical look. "We wanted to create a very chic studio54 inspired look. Rihanna and I were inspired to create this Disco Diva look by queens like Donna Summers and Diana Ross. The idea was to make Rihanna look like a fluffy dream."
Well, mission accomplished and according to him it only took 45 minutes to style her hair. If you're wanting to achieve this look he says that you might want to add hair extensions, she's wearing passion wave hair extensions by Hair So Fab. We're always game for a great protective style and adding extra volume, here's how he created the dreamy look. "I prepped her hair with the Biolage R.A.W. Frizz Control Styling Spray and then used the ghd air hairdryerto add some volume and then used the new ghd gold professional styler, which is available Feb. 1st to smooth out the root and get rid of flyaways." Then, I used the new ghd gold professional styler and ghd classic wave wand to create voluminous curls and waves. Once her curls were set, I used Matrix StyleLink Style Fixer, the Matrix StyleLink Airy Builder, and the Matrix StyleLink Smooth Setter."
