Hey lovelies, I’ve been growing dreadlocks for about 8 to 9 years now, and whenever I’m out my locs always get me a lot of attention,
whether it’s a random compliment or two, a request to touch or few rude comments, so I thought I’d answer some of the most bizarre questions I’ve received once and for all.DO YOU WASH YOUR HAIR?
Errrrm… of course I wash my hair! Who doesn’t?!
I find this to be the most offensive question of all.
For those of you interested enough, I actually wash my hair every 4-6 weeks. This keeps my hair healthy and strong, while maintaining natural oils that are needed to help bind my hair and stop it from breaking.
My usual routine is – wash, condition, re-twist, then air dry.
CAN I TOUCH YOUR HAIR?
I don’t mind people asking, I’m all about breaking the negative stereotypes that are associated with having locs, so next time you see someone with locs, instead of staring and making assumptions – we all know assumption make an ASS out of U and ME, just ask 🙂
DO YOU HAVE TO TAKE THEM OUT TO DO THEM?
No. I cannot take out my locs. Locs are a style that is meant to be left in as it grows. When I have to do my hair, I retwist the root so that it can loc like the length of my hair.
ARE YOU A RASTA?
This question always cracks me up! The answer is no… can’t a girl just love locs?
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN GROWING THEM?
I’ve been growing my locs for about 8 to 9 years. It wasn’t something that I really thought about compared to others who umm and ahh about deciding on whether to get locs, but I’ve always loved the way they look and love that I can embrace my natural hair.

Hell yeah, I spent near 9 years growing these bad boys!
CAN YOU TAKE THEM OUT?
So many people think committing to locs is a lifetime commitment, but you can actually comb them out, which is great, if you’ve got two weeks to spare.

IS IT HARD TO GET A JOB WITH LOCS?
Not at all, I feel people use this as an excuse, not to get locs, as you have to go through the ‘ugly’ stage. But in my opinion locs are getting a lot more popular with the likes of Meagan Good and co. rocking faux locs quite regularly.
HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH NATURAL HAIR? WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH DREADLOCKS, DON’T YOU GET BORED?
This is something that always baffles me, my locs are not something I see as something I have to ‘deal’ with, its just my hair lol. Locs are so versatile, and there are so many styles that can be experimented with, and colours that can be tried… I’ve had a few mishaps with bleaching, but that’s another story in itself.
Most recently, I cut my locs into a short bob, after having long hair for a while, I thought I’d switch it up. The possibilities really are endless and prove that locs are just as cool if you want to express yourself as having non loc’d normal hair.
