"It’s Important To Love What God Gave You"- Keshia Naturally Glam By Curly Nikki

Tell me about yourself!
My name is Keshia, I’m 23 years old, and I am from Illinois. I recently started my own YouTube channel, Keshia1390, and with this
channel I’m hoping to inspire others to love their hair as well as share my natural hair journey.

Were you a transitioner or a Big Chopper? What was your journey like?
I transitioned for 6 months before I decided to do the big chop. Before going natural, I was trying to grow my hair out long with a relaxer. After joining many hair care forums and browsing through YouTube, I began seeing many women rocking their beautiful natural hair. This made me very curious about my real hair texture. Growing up, I got my hair pressed at an early age and eventually I was given a relaxer around the 2nd grade. Because of this I never knew what my real hair looked like in its natural state.

When I finally big chopped, I received mixed reviews. A guy I went to school with even laughed in my face the first time he saw me with my hair cut off. Before going natural that would have really bothered me, but for some reason it gave me so much confidence that I didn’t care at all what others thought. I really do believe going natural has made me a more confident person. I also knew in time that those who didn’t understand would eventually end up following in my footsteps. Many who hated before are now natural themselves and often ask me for tips ☺

Had you always embraced your texture?
When I first big chopped, I was hoping to have a curlier texture, which was not the case. But that lasted like 5 minutes lol. So, I guess you can say I’ve always embraced my texture. I feel it’s important to love what God gave you.

How did family and friends react to your decision to go natural? What was your response to them?
Both my family and friends were real supportive, and my 2 best friends actually went natural with me!

Describe your hair (fine or coarse, thin or thick, highly porous, low, etc.)
My hair is coarse and very dense.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done to your hair?
I haven’t really done anything crazy with my hair, but I want to! Maybe in a few years when I get over wanting to have long hair. I really want to dye it burgundy though!

What’s your biggest hair related regret?
I can’t really say I have any hair related regrets. I’ve done things to my hair that it didn’t like, but I always use it as a learning experience.

What's your current hair routine? How often do you wash, condition, and style? Favorite products! Deets!
I don’t really have a hair routine, but I should probably come up with one! Lol. My semi routine is to wash and deep conditioner my hair every 3-4 weeks and moisturize and seal with oil when needed throughout the week.

What’s your favorite hairstyle? Where do you get hairstyle inspiration?
My favorite hairstyle has to be mini twists. I love that I can see my length and that it lasts me a long time so that I can get a break from doing my hair.

Who is your curl crush?
My curl crush would have to be Chime Edwards who goes by MyHairCrush on YouTube.

How do you maintain your hair at night?
I try my best to keep my hair stretched at night by pineappling it, re-twisting, or re-braiding it. Then I put on my satin scarf/bonnet. I moisturize and seal if needed.

How do you maintain healthy length?
I maintain hair length mainly by keeping my hair stretched and moisturized. If I let my hair shrink up, it tends to knot up and tangle.
What's the best thing about being natural?
The best thing about being natural is the confidence you gain from loving and accepting yourself the way you are.
